I'm an experienced, enthusiastic, and fun kiln-formed glass instructor in the Phoenix, AZ, US area. I love sharing my passion with students and spreading the joy of glass art.

My job as a teacher is to make the glass fusing process as predictable as possible for you. There are not many art forms where we spend hours making work only to leave it unseen for many more hours in a process where we have only limited control. Through my experience and understanding of the art and science of shaping glass using heat and gravity, I aim to pass on my knowledge so you can spend less time experimenting, trying and erroring, and more time bringing your vision to life in glass.

My beginner classes walk through all of the fundamentals of fusing in practical, understandable ways by making simple, fun projects that you will treasure forever; both as reminders of your journey and as beautiful works of glass. I cover the "rules" of the physics of melting glass in a kiln using everyday analogies that are easy to understand, as well as all of the tips and tricks I have accumulated from years of making and experimenting. I've already made all the mistakes for you!

Topics we cover include:

  • COE; what it is and why you can't mix; the only rule you can't ever break
  • The 6mm Rule: the most important factor in fusing predictability - how to follow it AND exploit it
  • Temperature + time + gravity: the vital equation in predictability
  • Types of fuses, firing schedules and what the heck is going on in that kiln
  • Design basics for the best results
  • Glass color reactions
  • Tools, materials and supplies; must haves and nice to haves

Class Schedule

Currently teaching exclusively at Mesa Arts Center in Mesa, AZ. Classes are available for registration per seasonal sessions.
