I have to admit, I have fallen in love with the sandblaster. Its sharp, sturdy metal frame, its filthy incubator gloves, its dusty, almost fully obscured viewing window, its gritty grit, its loving shock protector….. if I weren’t already married (and if marriage to an inanimate power tool was socially acceptable) I would marry it and have little smooth sandy babies. I used it on HALF of this purple clear and swirly opaque dish, then fire polished so that the texture remained but it got glossy again. See it? Marry me, sandblaster!!

About the process:
Handmade kiln-formed glass is an art and science that produces truly one of a kind pieces. Sheet glass, ground glass, powdered glass, metals, paints and enamels are formed together using myriad techniques and then fired up to 1500f for many hours -- often multiple times -- to achieve the beautiful, sometimes geometric and sometimes organic forms that are never *quite* perfect. Bubbles, soft lines, and uneven edges are often natural features of kiln-formed glass.
