Glass Finish: Glossy
This thing turned out so different than what I expected and really illustrates what I both love and hate about glass. No. I don’t hate it. At all. But it can be frustrating: the unpredictability! Somehow the technique of straight black glass noodles between squares of transparent glass on top of opaque white — all perfectly straight and sharp when going into the kiln — came out looking like it was drawn with marker. I love it, but how to get the effect I was going for??!?!

About the process:
Handmade kiln-formed glass is an art and science that produces truly one of a kind pieces. Sheet glass, ground glass, powdered glass, metals, paints and enamels are formed together using myriad techniques and then fired up to 1500f for many hours -- often multiple times -- to achieve the beautiful, sometimes geometric and sometimes organic forms that are never *quite* perfect. Bubbles, soft lines, and uneven edges are often natural features of kiln-formed glass.
